Islington's celebrations for Car-Free Day feature the glamour of the big screen this year with hundreds expected to flock to Liverpool Road, N1, as it gets a cool make-over, temporarily transforming it into a pedestrian-friendly, open-air cinema.
Car-Free Day (Saturday 20 September) - now in it's 4th year in Islington - imagines how the streets might look if we all reduced our dependence on cars.
Across the capital, 12 boroughs are taking part in the fun day with street parties, market stalls and advice on making your journey to work or school more sustainable. Globally, over 2,000 cities are involved.
'The Screen on the Street' sees Islington Council turn Liverpool Road into a 'park' for the day with grass and deck chairs so residents can watch great films like 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'Howl's Moving Castle' in the fresh air.
The FREE outdoor cinema will be on the southern end of Liverpool Road, which will be closed from Upper Street to Tolpuddle Street on the day.
