Description
Orchid-Star's sound is lush and colourful with a strong world music influence - Indian, Arabic, Celtic, African and more - fused with everything from psychedelic chill and dub to drum & bass and funk.
They are as at home in a club environment as on a festival stage
Orchid-Star was put together by Pete Ardron at the start of 2005.
Pete's last major project was Glow, well known on the world-fusion scene in the late 90s.
The band has diverse musical roots, several with classical training and members with backgrounds in rock, reggae, soul, funk, jazz, world and other fields.
Initially intended as a vehicle to perform music Pete had written for chill-out DJ sets, the band quickly started to take on its own sound, identity and direction.
2008 saw the release of their first album 'Birth' on Liquid Sound and first single 'Passion' on Archangel, all very danceable but still fundamentally chilled.
They are currently finishing the second album, a much more up-tempo affair that will be previewed tonight at inSpiral lounge.
